Growing up in Northwestern Ohio, Dr. Erick always knew she wanted to care for animals. She attended the University of Findlay, earning her degree majoring in pre-veterinary medicine and biology. After undergrad, Ashley was accepted at Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine where she graduated in 2009. While in vet school, she was an active member in the Alpha Psi veterinary fraternity, and the Student Chapter of the AVMA. She was a foster parent for the Homeward Bound project, which has helped some of the thousands of stray and abandoned dogs from around Mississippi find their forever homes in the Northern US. With these experiences, she’s a strong advocate for spaying and neutering pets! Of course, Ashley couldn’t leave without falling in love with some furry critters of her own: she adopted her three “Southern Belles”, Jesse Mae and Leila Belle, two Rhodesian ridgeback mixes, and Contessa Lou, a feral kitten. After graduating, she moved to Buffalo, New York and began her career as a small animal practitioner at Wheatfield Animal Hospital, and two sister emergency clinics. While in Buffalo, Ashley fell in love. She and her husband Nick were married in 2012, and after much paperwork, she moved to Ottawa in 2013 to be with him. She worked at Algonquin Animal hospital, and joined the Hawkesbury Animal Hospital family in 2014. Dr. Erick’s professional interests include preventive medicine, internal medicine, behavior, the human-animal bond, and soft tissue surgery.
Outside of work, Ashley and Nick work together on their rental units in the city. She also enjoys gardening, cooking, baking, swimming, and hockey.
